FI learns of meeting to observe World Homosexual Day

Asked about the gay conference, Ramez said thathe is against it. He wanted to keep things as a secret. “I prefer this to remain secret. I am completely against the idea of the conference and also against the idea of the world day for homosexuals . We will never leave this lifestyle even if we have our heads cut. So it’s much better not to have an official umbrella for us. People will never accept it,” he said. He added that when he started his homosexuality lifestyle during his early years, he thought he was the only one in the world behaving like this, but after getting involved in the community and interacting with others he found that there were many people like him. Ramez noted that he was speaking on behalf of 90 per cent of his group. They believe that they are suffering from some psychological disorder. Ramez said that a clinic should be established to treat them, like the secret clinics which treat drug addicts or those suffering from HIV/AIDS. He confirmed that all members of the group are desperately seeking a way out of their ordeal and he himself was prepared to go to extreme lengths to stop his behaviour. In reply to a question about the age group of homosexuals, Ramez said that there is no specific age. It ranges between 17 years old to 50 years and even 60. Members of the group usually arrange to meet via the internet and also decide on the venue by this means, he added. He said that when he tried to go back to religion and went to the mosque to perform prayers during Ramadan, he felt upset because all people in the mosque were men and he decided to pray at home or not to pray at all . Ramez concluded saying that he resorted to religion and also to female company to get rid of this problem but failed. In statements to Fact International, Eva Abu Halaweh, the human rights activists, said that this topic was not addressed in Jordan the way it is done so in western societies, adding, “Human Rights Associations in Jordan respect Jordanian law and its penal code”. The president of the Arab Organization for Human Rights, Hani Al-Dahleh said “The time has not come yet to argue any court verdict against homosexuals in Jordan as no such verdict was issued on this matter”. Dahleh added that “the Jordanian penal law did not address homosexuals”. Opponents Protesting against this phenomenon, the vice-president of the Al-Afaf Society, Waleed Shabsough, told Fact International that the society recently published a book entitled “People of Sodom in new dress”. According to Shabsough, the book provides a historical background to sexual deviation, the reasons for its existence, aspects that promote its prevalence, the serious consequences of these practices and proposed solutions to address it. “The book is the result of the aim of the society to provide awareness for young people and to protect them from deviation”, said Shabsough. Dr. Abdul Hameed Al-Qdhah, an HIV expert in the International Federation for Islamic Medical Associations told Fact International, “Out of my long experience in this field, I found that sexual deviation is the main reason for most of the sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS. The World Health Organization announced that some 750 millions people suffer annually from such diseases. World statistics indicate that 8% of those who become infected with AIDS acquire their illness from sexual deviation””. Psychological View Talking to Fact International, Dr. Mohammad Shoubaki said, “Male homosexuals are classified as Sodomites while female are called lesbians”. Shoubaki added that these persons suffer from a special kind of disorder that can be treated, stressing that “the duration of treatment depends on several factors including the duration of the illness and the cooperation with the physician who treats them”. Islam Opinion The website Islamouna Network (www.islamouna.info) posted a ruling by the networks Fatwa Committee declaring, “Normally, people are born either males or females. However, a person sometimes could be born with both male and female genitalia”. The board added that scholars classified such persons according to the predominant characteristics they acquire after their puberty. The board added that “in our modern age, it has become easy to treat this birth defects by means of surgery, which is considered to be lawful in Islam”.
